Grandmaster Sargussian Gabriel of Armenia emerged at the top of the
table after a crucial win over Jobava Baadur in the 8th and
penultimate round of the championship. Sargussian played a quiet
positional game and exploited a slight edge attained in the middle
game to attain a fine victory. The game displayed the hallmark of the
grandmaster who won by placing his pieces on optimum squares and
clinching the point with a nice mating attack involving all his forces
.
Yemelin bounced back into the reckoning with a fine win over
Polujubov Alexander in a Sicilian defense . the other top board games
ended in a draw and the much expected clash between Kotsur and Lputian
ended in a grandmaster draw of 10 moves . Sargussian tops the table
with 6.5 points from 8 games with grandmasters Kotsur Pavel , Lputian
and Yemelin Vasily with 6 points . four players shared the third spot
with 5.5 points .
In the open section Ghaderpour emerged as sole leader . Yahaya
Mohamed Saleh and Hiba Mohamed are close on the heels with 7 points .
both events are heading for a close finish and technical counts will
be introduced to determine the winner.

of Round7
Three players shared the lead at the end of the 7th round of the 13 th
Abu Dhabi chess festival held at Abu Dhabi . Grandmasters
Sargussian Gabriel of Armenia , Pavel Kotsur of Kazakistan and
Lputian Sambat of Armenia emerged at the top with crucial wins . the
seventh round witnessed prolonged battles as the seeded players went
all out for victory with 2 rounds remaining. The experts predict a
close race for the finish among the seeded players .
In the open section Yahaya Mohamed saleh of UAE and Ghardapur of Iran
shared the honors with 6.5 points . Yahaya has had an excellent form
and had a slight edge in the individual encounter against Ghardapur.
Yahaya had the bishop pair advantage but in time trouble it his
advantage wither away and drew the game.
Gabriel sargussian won a 85 move game against Goran Dizdar . in was
a close match and sargussian reached a bishop and rook and lone rook
ending . in time pressure Dizdar enabled his opponent to attain a
winning combination. Kotsur said It was tough match and my advanced
pawn on d3 gave me the advantage and the victory.
Report of Round 6
Grandmaster Yemelin Vasily of Russia emerged as sole leader
with 5 points at the end of the sixth round of Abu Dhabi Chess
Festival held at Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation. Yemelin defeated GM
Jobava Baadur of Georgia in 10 moves from a Sicilian defence to top
the table while a pack of seven players are behind the leader with 4.5
points.
GM Poluljahov Aleksandr of Russia defeated GM Harikrishna (India) in
43 moves from a Kings Indian defence while top seed GM Lputian Smbat
of Armenia defeated IM Abdelnabbi Imad of Egypt in 36 moves from a
French defence. International master Javad Maherramzade of
Azerbaijan surprised GM Neverov Valeriy of Ukraine in 47 moves. GM
Kotsur Pavel (Kazakhstan) and GM Dizdar Goran (Croatia) beat GM
Iuldachev Saidali(Uzbekistan) and IM Ahmed Esam Aly of Egypt
respectively. Nine players shared the third spot with 4 points each.
Jasim A.R. Saleh of UAE defeated his teammate Khalid Al Shaali.
Report of round 5
Five players share the lead with 4 points each at the end of the
fifth round of the 13th Abu Dhabi Chess Festival being held at the Abu
Dhabi Cultural Foundation.
Grandmasters Vladimirov Evgeny (Kazakhstan), Sargissian Gabriel
(Armenia), Jobava Baadur (Georgia), Yemelin Vasily (Russia) and
Harikrishna (India) took their tally to 4 points to be ahead of the
rest of the group.
A pack of 11 players share the second spot with 3.5 points apiece.
GM Poluljahov Aleksandr (Russia), IM Abdelnabbi Imad (Egypt), GM
Lputian Smbat (Armenia), IM Javad Maherramzade (Azerbaijan), GM
Neverov Valeriy (Ukraine), GM Kotsur Pavel (Kazakhstan), GM Iuldachev
Saidali (Uzbekistan), GM Dizdar Goran (Croatia), IM Ahmed Esam Aly
(Egypt), GM Kunte Abhijit (India) and IM Sandipan Chanda (India) are
all tied in second.
Top board matches ended in a draw, except Sargissian and Harikrishna
who defeated GM Rahman Ziaur (Bangladesh) and IM Hasangatin Ramil
(Russia) respectively.
UAE had a good day when Salem Ghuloom, Ahmed Abbas Khouri and Ibrahim
Ismail won their respective games.
In Childrens' tournament, Darini Porya of Iran became the sole leader
when she defeated Abdulmalek Abdulnoor of the UAE to take her tally to
5 points.
In Open section, Yahya Mohammed Saleh of the UAE, Mohammed Amer and
Ghadrpour share the lead with 5 points.
Report of round 4:

Three players shared the lead with 3,5 points at the end of the
fourth round of the 13 th Abu Dhabi chess festival held at the
cultural foundation, Abu Dhabi . The fourth saw hard fought games
between the top ranked players and the spectators were treated to top
class chess . mr. hussien khouri the tournament director said “ we
have had excellent quality games in the chess festival we are on the
look out to bring many new grandmasters who are young and energetic.
This year the titled players have shown their skills. Grandmaster
jobava of Georgia, vladimirov of Kazakhstan and yemelin vasily of
Russia shared the lead with 3.5 points . A pack of 11 players are
chasing the leaders with 3 points.
Mohammed,
Amer, Yahya,Mohamed Saleh, Ghadrpour , sh , Amin,Hassn Alanssi,
Mohammed,Bektash and Sade Shahin emerged as joint leaders with 4
points . the open tournament has seen the juniors proving their
skills as two of the talented juniors emerged at the top of the table
in the children tournament 3 Derini , P is the sole leader with 4
points , Abdul Malek,Noor Azemati , a Mohammed Khademi
Shirmofafkhami Ulvi,Bajarani Zayed,Ali are close on the heels with 3.5

Jobava
Baadur of Georgia emerged as the only player at the top with cent
percent score. jobava won a crucial battle against the talented
youngster sergey kaiumov in a complicated game from a sicilian
defense . sergey played well in the opening and got a slight edge but
in the middle game he weakened his pawn structure and jobava
penetrated into white's position with a brilliant piece sacrifice. The
major pieces co0mbined and created decisive threats to clinch the
issue while jobava tops the table with 3 points a pack of 8 players
are in second spot with 2.5 points . while there were many draws on
top boards the match of the day was the tense battle between Super
grandmasters sambat lputian and goran dizdar . the game saw fierce
tenchnical battle and finall;y fizziling out to a draw in a rook and
pawn ending. lputian said the initial phase was complicated and
despite a pawn less in the ending i was able to get counter chances.
harikrshan
won a fine ending against kasparov sergey in a king pawn opening.
kasparov went for the exchange variation . harikrishna exploited his
better pieces and control of open file to transpose into a winning
minor piece endging.
Report of round 2:
Six players shared the lead with 2 points at the end of the second
round of the 13th Abu Dhabi Chess Festival held at Abu Dhabi Cultural
Foundation. Grandmasters Lputian Smbat (Armenia), Vladimirov Evgeny
(Kazakhstan), Jobava Baadur (Georgia), Neverov Valeriy (Ukraine) and
Dizdar Goran (Croatia) and International masters Kayumov Sergey
(Uzbekistan) and Bakre Tejas (India) shared the first place after
winning their respective games.
Lputian Smbat defeated Grandmaster Kayumov Dmitry (Uzbekistan) in 71
moves from a French defence. Lputian played aggressively and captured
two pawns. He clinched the issue on the 71st move in a rook and minor
piece endgame. In a Queens Gambit Accepted variation, Vladimirov
defeated IM Hasangatin Ramil (Russia) in 53 moves. Vladimirov won
material advantage on the 19th move and nursed his advantage to
victory.
Tejas shocked Grandmaster Barsov Alexei (Uzbekistan) in a French
defence. The Indian master won a rook on the 24th move and clinched

caught in mid board accepted a rook sacrifice on 24th move. He worked
his king through the fifth rank where his king found a safe heaven and

Lputian Smbat defeated Grandmaster Kayumov Dmitry (Uzbekistan) in 71
moves from a French defence. Lputian played aptly and attained a
better position in middle game. The exchange of queens and
destruction of the centre led to a positive ending for the Armenian
master. He won two pawns in an opposite colour bishop ending and
clinched the issue on the 71st with absorbing technique. The game is a
ideal lesson for brilliant endgame play.
Jobava defeated IM Bagheri Amir (Iran) while Neverov and Dizdar
defeated IM Abdelnabbi Imed (Egypt) and FM Lauridsen Jesper (Denmark)
respectively.
21 players shared the second spot with 1.5 points. UAE had a mixed day
with IM Taleb Moussa and FM Hassan Abdul won their games against
Khalid Al Shaali (UAE) and WGM Mashinskaya Lulia (Russia) respectively
and took their tally to 1 point each. Salem Ghuloom drew his game
against James Coleman (England) while FM Ahmed Abbas Khouri and
Ibrahim Ismail lost their game against IM Himdan Maher (Egypt) and IM
El Arousy Abdul Hameed (Egypt).


Report of Round 1 :
The
seeded Grandmasters attained crucial victories and cruised to the
second round of the 13th Abu Dhabi Chess Festival held at Abu Dhabi
Cultural Foundation. Top seed GM Lputian Smbat (Armenia) defeated
Women Grandmaster Vasilevich Tatjana (Ukraine) in 38 moves from a
Queens Indian defence while GM Vladimirov Evgeny (Kazakhstan) defeated
International master Adly Ahmed (Egypt) in 54 moves.
Grandmasters Kengis Edvins (Latvia) and Mamedyarov Shakhriya
(Azerbaijan) defeated Ezat Mohamed (Egypt) and Ahmed Esam Aly (Egypt)
respectively. Grandmaster Mchedlishvili Mikheil (Georgia) drew his
game against Gokhale Chamdrashekar (India) in 48 moves from a Nimzo
Indian defence. Mchedlishvili exploited his superior
position to win a pawn and attained a clear advantage. But in time
pressure, both the players blitzed the moves and Gokhale managed to
bring out his king and stop the passed pawn in queens wing and
attained a draw.
GM
Iuldchave Saidali of Uzbekistan suffered a surprise defeat against
Lauridsen Jesper of Denmark in a complex endgame. In a king pawn
opening, Iuldachev went for an unusual system of development with a
detour of his king's knight. Jesper blocked the centre and after a
complex manoeuvring, Jesper was saddled with an inactive bishop. But
in acute time pressure, Iuldchaev lost his way and succumbed to a
counter attack in the queenside on the 59th move. The 13th
edition of the Abu Dhabi Chess Festival from Saturday at the Abu Dhabi
Cultural Foundation has attracted the biggest ever international field
for the week-long tournament. The international field for the main
Masters crown has already received 78 entries from 25 countries
including the five International Masters from the host nation.
Masters
division, Open class, juniors Under 16 and 12, and a one-day blitz
competition in-between for a total purse of nearly 15000usdollars
there 150
entries for the open and junior categories and obviously delighted
this annual event has grown bigger and better every passing year. The
prize monies too have been enhanced for this year are tournament.
Armenian
Grand Master Smbat Lputian, with an international rating of 2,623,
tops the 78 entries so far in the main category that also include 24
other Grand Masters from the breakaway republics of the former Soviet
Union, Russia, India, Iran and Bangladesh.
Hussain
Khouri, technical director of the UAE Chess Federation and the annual
chess festival, said this tournament has now become an established and
permanent fixture in the chess calendar of events.'This international
competition provides young players the opportunity improve their
international ratings and for the seasoned one's another high- quality
outing to look forward to every year,' said Khouri, a former Fide
ranked player.
'The
response this year has been overwhelming. The entries for the Masters
category is the best ever in the history of the competition and we
hope this trend will continue,' said Khouri.
The Masters
competition will be played in a Swiss system of nine rounds in fischer
system of 90 minutes to finish the game with additional 30 seconds for
each move made
Grandmaster pentayala
harikrishna , abijit kunte and GM sandipan chanda are taking part in
the festival for the first time and Abijit said “ the event has
attracted some of the top grandmasters and the field is competitive” .
Tejas bakre looking to complete his gm title and attain the frinal
norm said “ I missed the gm norm twice in 9 th and 11 th round of the
british championship. I am hoping to get the final norm from this
event”
Harikrishna said” there are
25 grandmasters and the event is very strong”
The official competitions
will start at 6pm at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation, which
organizes the annual event with the Abu Dhabi Chess and Culture Club.
The 86 competitors include 34 Grand Masters, 32 International Masters,
six FIDE Masters and 14 internationally rated players. Armenian GM
Smbat Lputian is the highest-rated player and the No1 seed with an Elo
rating of 2623 followed by GM Evgeny Vladmirov of Kazakhstan (2606)
and GM Gabriel Sargossoam of Armenia (2600). The Arab competitors in
the Masters are IM Fadi Eid from Lebanon, IM Nassir Al Sayed from
Qatar, IM Mohammed Taiseer from Morocco, Isam Al Jindi, Imad Abdul
Nabi and Mahmoud Izzat, all from Egypt.
IM Talib Moussa heads the
local competitors in the Masters. A total of 180 players are expected
to take part in the Open Tournament including 21 internationally rated
players featuring the UAE's Ali Mahmoud, Russian Safin and Hungarian
Kanish.
60 players mainly from the
UAE will contest the Children’s tournament, but also Includes players
from India, Azerbaijan, Iran and other Arab countries. All the
different
Competitions of the
festival will be contested over nine rounds according to the Swiss
system
