The club bravely stopped in 1991 with its
calculated planning towards a great event . That was the
organizing of Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival on annual
basis with its positive effects on the UAE chess march and on
Abu Dhabi chess and Culture Club in particular.
The main objective of hosting such a big chess
gathering was to allow UAE players to enhance their experience
by competing with advanced level and international masters all
over the world . Such a remarkable event also enables UAE
players to go through all details of this sport as well as
latest technics shown by competitors . This big festival
hosted by Abu Dhabi Chess and Culture Club at the
cooperation with the Cultural Foundation reflects the high
organizing capability of the UAE as declared by all
participants and the International Chess Federation officials.
Year after year since the start in 1991 , the chess
festival is still featuring new dimensions of a continuous
success.
The progress launched in 1991 with 400
participants distributed as per all age groups in the halls of
the cultural Foundation. n the 2nd chess festival of 1992
there was a noticeable increase in the number of participants,
and new tournaments were created . Due to the success of both
1st and 2nd festival the event was approved by the
International chess Federation and the 1993 festival listed
the "schevningen" tournament which was well received
by all for the first time. This festival also witnessed many
UAE players having international classifications. Total number
of 500 players representing 37 countries took part in this
festival .
